Psychology Counseling Room: A Place Where You Are Heard And Respected
With difficulties in life or studies, you may still find ways to move forward and realize that your own effort is the most important. However, the journey will be less burdensome when you have support. The Counseling Center is a place where you can pause, share, and receive professional support.
What can you expect?
To be fully heard in a safe, non-judgmental space. Being seen, heard, and present by someone else helps you believe in your own value and continue moving forward.
To receive emotional support. Encouragement and motivation help you develop your own problem-solving abilities.
To clarify the layers of emotions, thoughts, and each aspect of the current issue. Like rearranging a chaotic bookshelf, this helps you know where to start.
To be provided with scientific psychological information that supports the issue you are facing.
To practice psychological activities to enhance your self-understanding and decision-making abilities.
What should you not expect?
Advice: You know that advice from another person’s perspective cannot be the exact answer for you, because you are the one who understands yourself best.
Quick change: Every improvement is a journey, like a tree needing patience to grow. The counselor may work with you for multiple sessions, frequency, and appointment schedules will be discussed with you.
Understanding or changing others: Unfortunately, words, actions, and emotions of others are things we can only influence partially, not fully control. Therefore, counseling sessions will focus on ‘what can you do?’ rather than ‘what do you think others are feeling?’
Rights and principles you need to know
You have the right to ask questions, refuse, or stop any content you are not ready for
You are protected regarding: Your identity, counseling appointment schedule, your story, and the content you share about your emotions and thoughts. From registration to the end of counseling, everything is not shared with any third party.
Confidentiality changes when: The issue you are facing
• There is a risk of harm to yourself
• There is a risk of harm to others
• Related to legal regulations
• Related to situations of violence, abuse, …
In these cases, you will be informed by the counselor about the information sharing and you will agree to the sharing of this information. The information will be shared with the school, family, and relevant authorities (if applicable), and it is ensured that no one else outside the relevant parties will know about your information.
Please know that when you choose to seek counseling, the most important person is yourself. Whether it is confidentiality or situations requiring changes in confidentiality, everything happens with respect, with the intention of helping, and ensuring your physical and psychological safety.
